MAKHNO is a Ukrainian design and ceramics studio founded in 2003 by visionary artist and architect Serhii Makhno. Bridging ancestral heritage with contemporary aesthetics, the studio creates sculptural ceramic objects that blur the line between fine art and cultural legacy. From lighting and art furniture to monumental totems — clay lies at the heart of everything we do.
Every MAKHNO piece is handcrafted — based on original sketches and produced using traditional techniques that we preserve, revive, and reinterpret. Our team includes master ceramists who have worked with clay for decades — some of whom are direct descendants of Ukrainian ceramic dynasties.
Among the studio’s most iconic creations are the KHMARA lamp, DIDO art totems, ZEMLIA and LEHIT ceramic furniture collections, as well as Serhii Makhno’s proprietary innovation — BREATHABLE WALLS, a natural construction material made from unfired clay and over 50 organic additives.
Each object tells a story — local in origin, universal in resonance. Our ceramics carry the traces of earth, fire, time, and human touch — elevating craftsmanship beyond tradition into a new cultural language.
MAKHNO creations are used in private residences, hotels, galleries, and commercial spaces worldwide — including France, Japan, the USA, Italy, and the UAE.
The studio has been recognized with major international awards, including the Red Dot Design Award 2024 and the Dezeen Awards 2024, and regularly presents its works at leading design and art exhibitions across Europe and Asia.
At the core of our philosophy is the acceptance of imperfection, a reverence for nature, and the pursuit of tactile luxury. Deeply Ukrainian in spirit yet universal in its appeal, MAKHNO Studio stands as a vital voice in the contemporary ceramic renaissance.
Each MAKHNO piece is part of an artistic system envisioned by Serhii Makhno — a fusion of millennia-old ceramic heritage with a modern sense of form, rhythm, and function. It is at this intersection that true art is born.
